Dr Bigirimana Joseph,Legal Representative

Dr Joseph BIGIRIMANA, Legal Representative and Chairman of the Executive Committee and founding member of IPROSARUDE, is a public health physician of Burundian Expert in nutrition/health and in the management of health projects andprograms. He holds a master’s degree in public health issued by the Institut Régional de Santé Publique de Ouidah in Benin in 2016, an inter-university diploma (DU) on the global management of HIV/AIDS in the Great Lakes region issued by the University of Burundi and the University of Paris 13 in 2009, and a diploma in general medicine issued by the University of Burundi in 2008. Today, Dr. BIGIRIMANA Joseph is a doctoral student, junior researcher in Nutrition at the University of Burundi doctoral school, Health and Nutrition Coordinator, Communication for Social and Behavioral Change within the framework of the NKURIZA project financed by the World Bank.

Dr Joseph BIGIRIMANA has a thorough understanding of Burundi’s healthcare system. He began his professional career at Kirundo Hospital and Centre Socio-Sanitaire Izere in 2008 as a general practitioner for a period of three years, before being appointed Chief Medical Officer of Busoni Health District (Kirundo) from 2009 to 2011 and Medical Director of Mwaro Health Province from 2011 to 2014.

Dr Joseph BIGIRIMANA has considerable experience in management and leadership, and enjoys good governance in his role as representative of IPROSARUDE. He has proven skills in the planning, monitoring and evaluation of Burundi’s health projects and programs, as well as in research and development.

Experience in scientific research and consultancy, as well as in the development of strategic policies for Burundi’s healthcare system. Dr Joseph BIGIRIMANA and MUNEZERO Désiré in collaboration with the Consortium formed by Care International, CORDAID , RUTGERS and the Embrassade des Pays Bas in Burundi have carried out a baseline study for the joint “MENYUMENYESHE” program, a five-year project (2017 to 2020) on sexual and reproductive health and rights of adolescents and young people aged 10 to 24 in Burundi, and a final evaluation of the project.
