Entrepreneurship Week 2020: Iprosarude promotes financial education through its Nawe nuze project

Global Entrepreneurship Week is the world’s largest celebration of entrepreneurship.

From November 18 to 24, 2020, Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW) aims to inspire as many people as possible to harness their initiative and innovation through local, national and international activities.

In this week of entrepreneurship , Iprosarude (Initiative for the Promotion of Rural Health and Development) through its Nawe Nuze Project, a project that consists in the creation of savings and credit groups in communities, VSLA (Villages Saving and Loans Associations), organized the training in financial education. This training was intended for members of VSLAs in the Gitega, Kayanza and Mwaro provinces.

The objective was to equip them with the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to budget, save, and avoid debt in order to overcome unexpected emergencies. Organized as of November 23, 2020, several people, mostly women, participated in this training.

The women members of the VSLA trained find satisfaction and testify. Indeed, many felt that savings can only be possible for people with sufficient financial means and many families used credit/debt to cope with their emergencies.  But with VSLA members and the multiple training courses in entrepreneurship provided by Iprosarude, they have adopted the culture of saving and have a fund that can help them to cope in case of emergency; such as a sufficient and balanced diet for their families, emergency funds for health care and many others.

Iprosarude is delighted because, in this week of entrepreneurship, each household benefiting from the Nawe Nuze program is able to budget its priority expenditures and meet its disbursement deadlines.
