International Women’s Rights Day: Iprosarude organizes moral talks with Women Leaders in Gitega

International Women’s Day was celebrated on March 8, 2021 under the theme: “Women’s Leadership: For an Egalitarian Future in the World of Covid-19”.

Indeed, this theme celebrates the incredible efforts of women and girls around the world to shape a more egalitarian future and recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic.  It is a theme that also aligns with the priority theme of the 65th session of the Commission on the Status of Women, “Full and effective participation of women in decision-making in the public sphere, elimination of violence, achievement of gender equality and empowerment of all women and girls,” as well as with the flagship campaign Generation Equality, which demands that women be given the right to participate in decision-making in all areas of life, calls for equal pay and the fair sharing of unpaid family and domestic work, and calls for the elimination of all forms of violence against women and girls and the establishment of gender-sensitive health services.

On the occasion of International Women’s Day 2021, Iprosarude organized an educational talk session with women leaders and presidents of VSLA set up by Iprosarude on the following themes: “Mother-child relationship, women’s entrepreneurship and awareness on COVID-19 (barrier measures) in Gitega.

In total, more than 55 housewives responded to Iprosarude’s call. They were sensitized and educated on the relationship that a mother should have with her daughter on issues of sexuality, reproductive health and also on female entrepreneurship. So how should housewives undertake economically to support their husbands and participate in local development, especially by continuing to participate actively in their savings and loan groups.

And faced with the news of the last few days following the rise of COVID-19 in Burundi, Dr. Jean Pierre Ndayirukiye reminded these women of the necessary barriers to adopt especially when they meet in savings and credit groups (VSLA); in order to respect and enforce the rules of hygiene enacted by the government and the World Health Organization to limit the spread of COVID-19 still circulating in the world and in all provinces of Burundi.

Satisfied with the interest that Iprosarude attaches to women, they did not hide their emotions and expressed their gratitude to this organization which never ceases to prove that women must be valued everywhere and at home.
