A positive assessment of the Tubakarorero project presented to local authorities in Gitega

On July 26 and 27, the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Burundi, Care International in Burundi and its partner in implementing the Tubakarorero project, Iprosarude, organized an open day in the province of Gitega. The aim was to present the Governor and other administrative authorities of Gitega with a positive assessment of the projects financed by the aforementioned Embassy in Gitega Province. The Gitega administrative authorities appreciated the activities and good results of the Tubakarorero project.

The Dutch Embassy and the local authorities appreciated the results already achieved by the Tubakarorero project implemented by Iprosarude in Gitega under the supervision of Care International in Burundi. This is according to the statements made by participants at the open day held on July 26 and 27 in Gitega.

 This open day enabled the Gitega administrative authorities to see that thanks to the Tubakarorero project, 13 youth centers have been revitalized and equipped with sports, sound and digital equipment. There are also 4 youth centers, including Ryansoro, Nyarusange, Bugendana and Bukirasazi, which were not functional before the Tubakarorero project, and which today welcome young people learning about entrepreneurship and other information that can help them to be responsible and useful young people for society. It was also noted that there has been a marked improvement in attendance at youth centers and clacs in Gitega province. A total of 13,828 girls and 17,093 boys regularly attend the youth centers. For the sexual and reproductive health (SRH) of young people and adolescents, the Tubakarorero project in Gitega province supports 45 schools implementing sex education, and more than 892 young people are trained in SRH and life skills with 220 Village Savings Associations comprising 679 members, all supported under the Tubakarorero project in Gitega province.

The Ambassador of the Netherlands to Burundi, Mr. Jeroen Steeghs, recommended that all the organizations implementing the projects of the aforementioned Embassy work in synergy in order to put together approaches with a high community impact, but also to increase the results for the benefit of the population.

Iprosarude implements the Tubakarorero project in the provinces of Gitega, Kayanza and Bubanza.
